On the whole, I enjoyed the finale of Downton Abbey. With reservations.

I enjoyed it. But I had problems with it.

It went on long.

Wrapping up every storyline with a happy ending was pat.

And I had this idea a few weeks ago that I wanted to see the show end with a flash-foward to elderly Lady Mary in the 1980s. Through her eyes, we’d see how the whole family ended up, and how the Crawleys adapted to the end of the manor system, and beyond into Margaret Thatcher’s Great Britain.

I even had this idea that elderly Lady Mary would be played by Maggie Smith.

And then I thought, what if elderly Lady Mary had to go BACK IN TIME? To stop Hitler from getting the A-bomb! Or to make sure that Robert and Cora met each other at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance! Or something like that! Wouldn’t that have been AWESOME?!

But on the whole I enjoyed the finale of Downton Abbey.
