Facebook is eating journalism

People are getting most of their information from social applications on their phones, particularly Facebook, which is creating a seismic shift news industry not seen for centuries, says Emily Bell is Director at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School.

“We are handing the controls of important parts of our public and private lives to a very small number of people, who are unelected and unaccountable,” Bell says.

She calls on regulation to democratize the process. I’m skeptical that’s the answer.

I’m skeptical “let the market decide” is the answer.

I don’t have an answer.
